So. I was hoping their next mobile rig would be a dual-bander with dual-receive and two D-STAR boards in it and "smart" enough (like the Kenwood APRS rigs) to "tie" D-PRS beacons to band A, or band B, as desired and route the rear data port to either band as desired. Looks like they went the other way.
If they stick to that pricing (with the world economy, it'll probably be higher by next April, not lower), they appear to have essentially raised prices on the 880/800H replacement rig. I'm sure they needed to raise the list prices in today's economic climate, but it serves also to make the 2820 look more attractive to new buyers, which doesn't hurt them any. But, for those of us who already have a rig or two, these rigs aren't going to motivate us to switch, I don't think. I'll probably be buying another 800H before the 880 comes out, to have dual D-STAR receive, at a significantly lower price point. Maybe they'll also include fixes for the audio characteristics of the 800H in the 880, since all of them sound "tinny" compared to the audio chain in the 2820 and the HT's. Some people say they like it, some don't. I'd prefer they just be *consistent* since dynamic audio frequency range is a measurable and quantifiable thing.
