I have a point on the "identify at the end of the contact" side of things: is your callsign the absolute last thing you say when you clear? Usually it's the first for me: "WX9EMT clear, 73" so by your logic that's not properly identifying. Also, if I record a sound file and transmit it via DD, that's data carrying audio, am I required to *verbally* ID that transmission? One last question, isn't your callsign encoded at the beginning of every single packet sent and not just the beginning of the transmission?
I appreciate the responses, I knew there wasn't going to be a quick and fast answer and wanted to see what you thought. My personal read on the situation is that for LEGAL purposes, Verbal ID is not required when operating D-STAR voice with a properly configured radio since the mode inherently carries the callsign embedded in it.
