I forwarded on the info, and two folks who work more closely with IFR/Aeroflex gear showed "interest" in the thing for their labs. One's in government, the other is maintaining a lot of all of the myriad of digital modes out there in the commercial 2-way world, and both said "It'd be nice if we could get it for OTHER things, but since it'll do D-STAR that might give us a reason to use that over something else."
I figure the best hope is that one of them will actually get one and then be willing to cart it out of the lab to the D-STAR site for some REAL testing someday... They also shared that IFR/Aeroflex's list prices aren't realistic... they both could pick up the thing for a LOT less than $30K, especially with any trade-in credits for relative newer IFR/Aeroflex gear. Cross-posting to "Gateway" to pick up any RF-heads over there that have been watching/waiting for real test gear... it sounds like this box will eventually be "coming soon" to a lab near "you"...
