Hi Woody! I am new at it too, so I have been there! You may have already done these things, but here are a couple of thoughts:
1) Have you registered with the DSTAR network? (This is usually done via an email form from your local DSTAR repeater) 2) Have you programmed the gateway in the RPT2 field? (Typically, this would be the repeater call sign followed by a 'G' in the 8th position. Hope this helps!
