Dale, Several of us like to think outside the box, adapt new technologies to existing technologies, enhance communication mediums, and promote Amateur Radio. I thought Digital was thinking out of the box. Digital needs to be allowed to develop whith out being tied to old technology . Personally, I would like to built a sort of Cross Band Repeater for D*STAR to FM. This would enable information to be passed during a disaster or other event. With HF Bands being so horrendous right now and with Hurricane Season here, I would like to know that if needed. We could transmit information from a field VHF/UHF radio to a base location and patch that person directly into the D*STAR network. Especially if we have critical information to pass. Every place I have been there are always multiple FM repeater in a area where a Dstar system is. All Dstar radios do standard FM. If you need communications, just switch channels.. . It is all technology and without people thinking outside the box, we wouldn't be where we are today. Dstar has many capabilities that FM does not have, linking them will bring the whole system down to the level of most FM repeaters. The digital messageing with Dstar has much greater capabillityes for emcom traffic . Are you sure you understand what all Dstar will do?- Dale [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
