My heart and our family's prayers go out to the families of the two jumpers involved in the accident. My BFR flight was cancelled (by me) Monday, due to a failed engine run-up during the standard pre-flight checklist safety checks. Testing the right mag, the engine was obviously missing on a cylinder, and it wasn't the usual carbon fouling that can happen at our altitude if you don't lean the mixture aggressively on the ground (and we do!)... called Ground Control and taxied her back to the hangar. (Funny side note: Including the time earlier in the day to taxi over to the fuel pumps, I got .5 hours of TAXI time in, all told! Haha... 1/2 an hour of taxi time and two cancelled flights, one for weather, one for a "mechanical" -- you'd think I was trying to emulate an airline flight! Heh heh!) The mechanic found that a previous mechanic had over-torqued the magneto end of the ignition wiring from the right mag to the number 3 cylinder, which had split(!) the nut over time, and the ignition wire came disconnected. The aircraft has been repaired with a new ignition wire (and nut!) to cylinder #3 from the right magneto, and we took care of the burnt out landing and taxi lights in the same visit to the shop... so she's all ready to go now, finally. I will be back in the air shortly! Maybe we can figure out a parachute to aircraft contact sometime in the future...! Have fun, be safe!
