Interesting side note. I was thinking 2 Ghz operational fixed links were displaced in the US by PCS Cellular service - perhaps 960 Mhz or 6 Ghz ? Doesn't make that much difference - many applications use 960 Mhz. with a fractional T1 data channel.

Trunking repeaters just allows a large pool of subscriber units better access to a small pool (trunk group) of radio channels. Certainly not the correct answer for every application. Now if the radios were using amplitude modulation instead of some form of angle modulation, that may be different.
