If they have an analog link, they are not getting into digital.  Mixing analog 
and digital gives you analog behavior, not digital.

This would be so hugely cumbersome that anyone intially interested would soon 
lose interest.

If folks don't have the natural curiosity and resources to try digital, there's 
no point in trying to convince them otherwise.  Just enjoy what you do and let 
them enjoy what they do, which is usually complaining.  Often they've had 
enough practice to be pretty good.
