I wonder if the inverse is true. If I whisper soothing
words of encouragement at my JBODs, will I get
more IOPS with reduced latency?

Perhaps music at the right frequency? Probably something more
classical - not heavy metal or hip-hop with a thumping beat.

(I can see it now: disks coming with recommended music for
optimum performance: "Our 7200 rpm disks work best with
John Tesh's piano music, but our 10k rpm disks prefer
 Yanni on the pan flute.")

Well, how about water-cooled computers?  Would disk performance be better if computers were water cooled?  (I'm assuming water-cooled computers would allow quieter machine rooms, which should help disks to concentrate/think better.)
