Hi, I want to introduce performance analysis / OS performance diagnosis using DTrace within OpenSolaris. However, my Institutes computing "support" people are reluctant to set up a dual boot OpenSolaris/ Windows configuration and prefer instead for me to use OpenSolaris within VMware or VirtualBox.
My question is: how reliable and insightful would the DTrace stats and results be if the OS was running in a virtual environment? Do the Windows kernel stats map well or 1:1 with what gets collected by DTrace inside OpenSolaris? Thanks for any help on this.
