Well, it would be nice to have such a utility, i remember my cousin
once told me something about her project, a MDA which uses mailstore
with SQL as backend, she codes in VC++, i would write her
if you have any queries.

Have you ever used beagle? It can be used to index mails
but since your archive is a lot bigger than what I have on my
desktop, i am not sure whther it wil be useful for you. But
i would be happy if you give a try and see the performance.

I have another interesting piece of software zoe
(http://zoe.nu/), Its free (creative commons license) and very
nice. I have it in my desktop, it works fine.

I quote here developers' own words viz.,
Think about it as a sort of librarian, tirelessly,
continuously, processing, slicing, indexing, organizing, your messages.
The end result is this intertwingled web of information. Messages put in
context. Your very own knowledge base accessible at your fingertip. No
more "attending to" your messages.

both these projects use of Apache Lucene framework, it builds an index
first by passing thru' an analyzer and with the help of Lucene parse
class, it gives you documents matching your query. The most interesting
part is you can pass a query while they are being built.

give a try and let us know.
