Kernel 2.2 ?!?!?! You installed Debian Woody (with default kernel) ?!
Why you didn't try Debian Sarge ?
anyway, what's wrong with your connection ?
you just need to configure your Wireless modem, then connect your computer to your Modem.
Your linux get the IP automatically from your Wireless modem. (if it has a built-in DHCP Server)
Please discuss about more things, to get a useful answer ;)
(what was your mean of inet ? inetd ?! or Internet ? :P )
