Do look into hardware compatibility with the distro u would like to use
though. Even if its a linux pre-installed system from Acer or Compaq.

In an extension to the same topic, I'd picked up a HP DV1350 on my last trip
to dubai, it turned out to be quite some effort to get linux working
optimally on it...fedora crashed...rh9 could'nt detect half the
hardware...it has a widescreen tft with a weird native resolution of
1280x768. However, ubuntu picked up most of the stuff nicely though getting
the display to work was a [EMAIL PROTECTED] Eventually did get it to work in 
native
mode but only via a 'vesa' driver.
