Now, is this a SCSI tape drive or old FDD interface? Is it auto-rewinding? Does
the drive compress
on the fly or require the software to do the work for it?

Yes, Oracle is a database. It stores it's files on the filesystem. If you
backup the filesystem you
will backup the database as a portion of that. It would be a good idea to bring
the system down into
single user mode first to ensure all the files are consistent.

I'm not even gonna go there. Is this a legitimate Oracle install with valid
licenses? Does it come
with a manual or a technical support contract?

I note going back a little into my archives you also asked a question
previously about SAP?
Now Oracle and SAP are both rather large and well supported Application Suites
/ Companies. Perhaps
you might ask them how to properly support their software.

Personally I'd be bloody afraid of letting someone who asks questions such as
these on a Linux User
Group mailing list anywhere within 100 feet of an enterprise application.

I do certainly hope that you have a very simple Oracle and SAP installation on
your home PC for
educational purposes and that you are not actually supporting this stuff in the
field.
