I think the easiest is to setup a DHCP server (Dynamic updates ) (if n/w 
is large) and let DHCP manage it.
I have for example a staticallly allocated pool as well as dynamically 
allocated pool.

If the DHCP server is on a different machine then this situation is a 
bit tricky but one can use key for authentication in that case, but only 
thing is that it is one more step ahead.

The normal users can use the dynamic pool, whereas it would be advisable 
to use the static pool for the servers.
When you have dynamic updates enabled (i use: ddns-update-style interim; 
for dynamic updates) it will adjust the entris in the hosts journal.
which would be completely hassle free.
