Topic of Presentation: Hula - A Calendar and Mail Server Open Source Project led by Novell Proceedings: After a very short briefing by Mr. Bala the Director of MindZen who are into thesupport of Linux Based Services, Mr. Dan started his presentation on Hula. Dan described how easy and fun it is to configure hula for the calendar and mail services and how it is differnet from NetMail. It was clarified that Netmail wasfor real-world high-volume situations. He introduced MyRealBox.com a free internet email service that offer 10MB space based on Novell NetMail and eDirectory. In fact Hula changes get incorporated later into Novell Groupwise solutions. Apparently, MUAs such as Evolution, Thunderbird, Kontact and Outlook can work with Hula. There seems to be a migration path from Exchange Server and Mdaemon to Hula He summarised saying that he would continue the session with the hands-on configuration in the next LUG Meeting Next was the turn of Mr. Yunus from PrimaJava Soft, Dubai Internet City. Mr. Yunus enthusiastically introduced his hand-made Linux Based Appliance that work with Less than 8 MB. Surprisingly, he managed to give the little box a very small footprint of Linux, GRUB, Squid Proxy, IPtables and to top it all a web based interface to make even a 'moron' (No offence intended;it is just geeky parlance) do the configuration of a Firewall/Proxy Server. It was a refreshing departure from the past where the Dubai LUG members could come face-to-face with Bala sporting a GNU cap and a T shirt and Yunus with his small little box - his own creation on micro ATX VIA. He explained what it is capable of and not capable of. It has two Ethernet ports and how load balancing is achieved and his passion for SSL VPN compared to IPSEC Mr. Bala of MindZen also narrated his experience with GNU/Linux and how MindZen could make use of the tiny Linux box Proxy Server for some of their Customers. Mr. Joseph requested the members present to suggest the Venue as well as the Topic for the next meeting . This time we could see more new faces and it is a good sign. The meeting was adjourned to meet again on January 11 (second Wednesday of ), 2006.
