mplayer for anything not dvd related, and xine in audio passthrough mode for the DVD's (menus and
navigation don't work in mplayer) and SP/DIF digital passthrough for AC3, Dolby Digital and DTS
soundtracks.
The menu app picks the relevant player based on the source material
