Interesting. I would have thought, given that I think you will find most
laptops are still sold for
business use, that menial office kinda stuff was more the norm. Certainly not
the vocal minority of
gamers or DVD watchers.

I certainly use mine for word processing, writing code and general office type
tasks. It sees very
little use as a movie machine and none as a gaming platform.

Horses for courses, everyone is different. I just appears the general trend is
toward the "glossy"
screens.

I just did some side by side tests with mine against my old acer, using natural
window sourced
light, artificial lamp based light and direct sunlight.

The matte screen reflects nearly as much as the glossy screen, however the
matte screen reflects
almost the entire visible light bandwidth, making for a full range colour
reflection. The glossy
screen, while having a slightly brighter reflection absorbs most light
wavelengths lower than a dark
magenta. So while the reflection may be more pronounced, it tends to irritate
less as the longer
wavelengths are absorbed.

Kinda makes the reflected light look purpleish, where it does not seem to
interfere with the picture
on the screen to the same degree, or draw your attention away from what you
were originally looking at.

Perhaps we should get a decent light meter and do some reflected objective
tests.
