Thanks for the link, it's got me interested in OF anyway. I've tried setting and unsetting AAM and all standby modes (I downloaded the drives data-sheet and programming manual to get the right register values) using hdparm and it just appears to make zero difference. <sigh> Now I need to wait for it to happen again and do some more experimentation.
