Hi!

I've just installed Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) on my Compaq F500 laptop.

The system is setup for dual booting with Vista (Home Basic) which
came pre-installed with the laptop. I'm trying to get the wireless
working in Ubuntu which requires a working internet connection in the
first place in order to download the required software and get
wireless recognised by Ubuntu.

Towards this end, I tried connecting the laptop to the DSL modem
(Siemens Speedstream 6520 supplied by Etisalat) through Ethernet
cable. The problem I'm facing is that I cannot access the net when
connected through Ethernet. I checked whether net is accessible
through Ethernet connection under Vista but here also net is
inaccessible. The status bar in Firefox just keeps saying
"Connecting..." The DSL modem-cum-router is setup as DHCP server and
assigns the IP address automatically to connected devices. My
room-mate runs Windows XP on hi laptop and is connected to the same
DSL modem through Ethernet cable. However, he is not facing any
problem as far as accessing the Internet is concerned.

Please help me to get the Ethernet connection working.

Regards,
Sarfaraz
