Forgot to mention that. Yes, the phone supports 802.11b ONLY. Most of the Access Points these days runs on 'mixed mode' (supports b and g ) so there won't be any issues with wifi connectivity for the next few years, and I hope by then I can get a phone that doesn't just run Linux, but some form of Debian. I'm having a tough time without 'apt-get' in my phone. :(
Gmail works fine. You can either you the default mail client of the phone or use Google's own software for mobile: http://www.google.com/mobile/mail/index.html. As far as I know you can't use Thunderbird on a mobile phone. It's a desktop application. Another useful software I use is Gcalsync(http://www.gcalsync.com/) to synchronise my phone's calendar with my Google one.
