Happy to see you are trying out
Here I assume u are using IE in the same machine , but on Windows XP
and you are able to browse while your laptop booted with XP but not
able to browse from the same laptop while in linux
Here I doubt you are having problems in dns name resolution
please do this check
# From command mode can u ping to any IP address out side ur office
# if u can ping
# please check ur resolv.conf , u can do it by using
cat /etc/resolv.conf
It should have the DNS server IP address
Please do check this and post your results
