That would be the cynical view. In reality, Google was growing, not losing, in China. See: http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/2009/07/google-25-percent-china-ad-revenue.html http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/investing/googles-still-a-buy-despite-its-china-syndrome/19315486/ http://www.businessinsider.com/googles-china-exposure-600-million-in-sales-this-year-lots-of-future-growth-2010-1 And according to this: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-01-19/baidu-loses-second-executive-in-month-as-lead-slips-update1-.html "Baidu’s lead in China’s online search market shrunk in the fourth quarter after the company adopted its new Phoenix Nest paid-search system. The switch is expected to affect revenue for a “couple of quarters,” Chief Executive Officer Robin Li said in October." So, Google was certainly not in a losing situation. Leaving China is not good for the company's long term (or short term) bottom line. Their decision was based on something else. -- Todd ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
