All this talk of Controllers led me to fire up one of mine.

>From a Controller point of view, it seems Firmware is called Software. 
You can do a "Software" update from the Controller itself, navigate to
Settings/Advanced/Software Update.  Do this while you are connected to
the external network.  The controller will then tell you if there is an
update available, and invite you to update if so.

Last update for the Controller is 7.8.  I'm running LMS 7.9, and the
Controller reported that "software" was up to date and running 7.8.
