The raspberry Pi audio jack output is of very poor quality even for
compressed audio.
The Duet receiver has a Wolfson DAC, well appreciated in hifi equipment
for the warm and precise musical sound.
HifiBerry DAC is only required for surround sound or anything better
than standard audio CD quality over 44.100 hz / 16 bit.
So if your aim is stereo playback in flac, mp3 or acc then Duet
Receivers are more than adequate and significantly better than the
standard raspberry Pi jack audio output.
