Running 9.0.4, and have no problems with sleep and/or waking up from it.
Check for hidden processes crashing you. Type the following in Script
Editor:
Tell app "Finder" to get name of processes
Make sure you can see the "Result" Window
Chances are its something like Serial Port Monitor (my guess)...
