About 3 weeks ago, I upgraded to a 400 MHz G3 and 112MB RAM, but before
(180MHz and 80MB) AND after that, I have been able to use CardBus cards on
my machine. I've pointed it out to the list many times and also invited MCE
to potentially explain what they do and if it is even necessary.
Cards I have tested successfully:
Newer FireWire2Go
Ratoc CBFW2 (Own this and use it regularly)
MacAlly USB (a bit flaky, but no moreso that what people who HAVE had the
modification say)
Of course, same as "MODIFIED" 2400's, I cannot boot with any of these cards
inserted. That applies for OS 8.6 and 9 and Pre G3 and Post.
Performance of the Newer was unimpressive I had jerky mouse movements and
other unreliable behavior. The Ratoc is excellent! I only tested the Newer
BEFORE the G3 upgrade, but I've used the Ratoc before and after without a
complaint. Although, when I first got it (pre-G3), I was running 8.6, which
can't use FireWire 2.4, but after digging around in the 9.0.4 update I
discovered FW 2.3.3, which worked perfectly with QT 4.1.2 and the newest
Ratoc drivers. Under OS 9, it requires FireWire 2.4. With FireWire cards,
there are three pieces of software that must get along perfectly and be the
proper versions: QuickTime, FireWire and whatever Drivers you need.
Cheers,
Jay
