Two probably-silly questions:

1. He did try turning it on the ordinary way first? - by simply pressing
the power button on the keyboard with the Duo inserted? (The one at the
back is just for emergencies.)

2. Did anyone try the Duo out of the dock on a mains adapter and on
battery? That at least would tell you whether it was the Duo, the battery,
or the dock.
