I think you'd be taking a pretty big step backwards doing this, losing the
PPC chip, the active matrix screen, and so on. Is there any particular
reason you're considering this? >>
here's what I would do! I'd get myself a 190...or a 5300....apple is giving
rebates for these since they are still in warranty, but you need to verify
via serial # that the particular model you are buying is covered. some have
already been submitted so you can only submit once according to what I've
read.
once you have that, and offer it to apple for a repair, they will most likely
offer you hundreds of dollars for it toward the purchase of a NEW
powerbook.....a few friends of mine have done that successfully......
but as it has been echoed in this newsgroup, you can NOT beat the size and
weight of the 2300, unless you get a 2400c, which is of course upgradable to
g3 status. I have both, and each holds value to me....my 2300c is my
everyday laptop, take it daily to every place I go...if it gets lost or
stolen, i'm not as upset as if it were the 2400c....I use it as a transfer
laptop, like a large palm pilot....sorta!
My g3 pismo firewire powerbook is pretty much a desktop computer in the form
of a laptop...too big to take daily, but when needing it for digital video
editing on the job, nothing and i mean NOTHING beats it!!!!!!
just my 2 cents.
