Well, as I said before, apparently Apple has gotten wise to people using
this site to gain access and download service manuals. I have searched
on 280c, 2300c, powerbook, dock, and duo, and the resulting "entire
manuals" that appear in these searches cannot be downloaded. I try to
download the appropriate manual (either by clicking on the link, or
option-clicking the link), and the download appears to start briefly
(actually access to the FTP site appears to start up), then the request
is redirected to Apple's Tech Info Library page, from which one can only
download product specifications and other "benign" literature.
So much for trying to get service manuals for older Apple products from
Apple!
