We're getting way off the subject here, but I must admit that there may be
safety in this cyberarchaeology. I've been wrestling with trying to get a
new iMac running 9.0.4 and Appleworks 6 to share docs with a PB 170 for the
purposes of writing away from home. You would not believe it. New OS, new
HFS+, old system 7.1 and configPPP trying to cooperate. Address file in
question was in Eudora 3.0 Pro, completely uncooperative with
Appleworks/Claris in any era. But to do the simple task of taking personal
address data from one old program and sticking it into something the new
box will be able to use I have been importing, exporting, field shuffling,
data moving, and saving as text or whatever. And when one gets right down
to it the older stuff, like Claris 4, works just fine...just not on new
machines.

I dream of just standardizing my life on system 7.5.5 and the 040 processor
and letting the modern world take off without me.

I can hardly wait for the wonders of OS X to just modernize me into fine
dust particles. Do we all have our latest versions of Conflict Catcher 8,
MacLink 357.2 and TechTool 1699463.5? Sometimes progress looks best in
retrospect.

I should have quit when I discovered that SimpleText couldn't run under 6.0.8.

Excuse me.
