Phone-cord-style ("10 Base T") EtherNet requires a hub between
connected machines, OR a "crossover" cable that gets the "read" line on
one machine connected to the "write" on another, etc. Once you get the
correct signal connections, your fileshare/chooser approach should work
fine... possibly you'll also have to tell AppleTalk to use the
EtherTalk connections.
