Probably not.
What I'd do is boot as usual, make a new folder called Old System, take
your finder out of your current system folder and move both finder and
system folder seperately into the Old System folder. This is an attempt to
hide and "unbless" the system folder when the OS X installer looks for it.
When you run the OS X installer, do a clean install and I'm guessing it
shouldn't disturb your old system. If it does it'll probably move it all to
a Previous System folder, which is no big deal.
My understanding is that OS X memory requirements won't shrink down to 64
megs until it gets finalized so I'm not even gonna bother with OS X
altogether. At 64 megs, that leaves nothing much left to run more than one
application.
8.6 or 9.04 is the end of the road for me and my 2400 and I'm perfectly
happy with that. It might take two or three years before the applications I
use will stop working on my current configuration and from what I've seen
of Aqua, I'm not all that anxious to upgrade. . .
