I have a 2300 running OS8.6. It is slower but I can live with that as it's
not my primary machine. I prefer OS8.6 for all it's features, especially
Sherlock, contextual menus, sticky menus (that stay up with one click) etc.
I mostly do email, some light web surfing, AppleWorks and Acrobat Reader.

OS7.5.x & 7.6 are good but I prefer to have all my Macs running close to the
same OS. I have an iMac333/96MB/6GIG, a PPC8100/120MB/10GIG w/G3 upgrade,
and a Performa 6200/64MB/13GIG. My G4 at work runs OS9 but I don't see any
real benefit yet. My kids have a variety of 680x0 machines. Their 660/AV
runs OS8.1 while the other 4 run OS7.5.3.

And as Eric stated:

> from 8.1 because of the larger fraction of OS code that's PPC native.
