I think ram wouldn't be a problem. I've read numerous reports of people using X on machines with 64 megs of ram. Add the fact that virtual memory is far improved in X, and I think it'd run great on a 2400. I also think that eventually someone will release a hack or way to install X on unsupported machines. I know that there have been tricks and workarounds already, but I think it'll be more commonplace. There are just too many capable machines that Apple is intentionally leaving out with their requirements. I think the 2400 will be able to install it eventually. That being said, I don't own a 2400 or any powerbook. But if Apple fills the hole in the portable line with anything other than a new subnotebook I'll be in the market for one. For those that don't know about it already, there's a message board over at appleinsider.com called future hardware where people speculate on new hardware that Apple may be prepping. It was also the site of the now infamous "Worker Bee" scandal in which an Apple employee leaked the specs for the now released iBook. Other products were leaked through the board as well. Anyway, a couple of the active 2400/duo related threads are: http://forum.appleinsider.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001780.html http://forum.appleinsider.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/005745.html http://forum.appleinsider.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/005670.html Feel free to register and take part in the discussions, the boards are really quite entertaining if nothing else, and you never know what REAL product leaks might show up. And Apple is known to read the boards and even sometimes respond. So if you want to help get the word to Apple that we need a new subnotebook, this is a good place to start. -Kort ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
