Yup. Works sometimes. I've overclocked several Macs with varied results.
Best was an old Quadra 700...ran at 40 mhz! (orig. @ 25). Overclocked my
2300, but saw little difference. Swapped out the orig. clock chip for a 36
mhz (??don't remember exact specs...was some years ago) but the unit ran
hotter and I saw no effective speed difference. Biggest problem is the
possibility of damaging your logic board. DO NOT TRY THIS unless you have
the right equipment and are willing to risk damage to your logic board! A
friend wanted an overclocked Celery system (eh...Celeron! Sorry!) and was
willing to take the risk. I got a Malaysia chip (300 mhz) to 540 or
so....lasted about 4 months 'til the cooling fan failed and it (actually!)
smoked. Fun to try if you have extra hardware and $$.
