In trying to recondition may batteries I've been frustrated by the fact that Apples battery recondition utility doesn't run on several machines. so I found a couple very nice sharewares that are very useful. PowerBook Strip It goes into your control strip and displays the exact percentage of battery power you have left. If you click on it the pop-up menu provides a bunch of info including voltage of battery or AC adapter depending on which is in use. It also provides some temperatures as well as Spin down drive and sleep. Battery Amnesia It will discharge any Duo battery (or other PowerBook), no matter which processor, running OS7 on up. It forces the PowerBook to stay on until it actually does a hard shutdown rather than Apples soft shutdown which doesn't completely discharge the battery. Best of all, while it's discharging it display a progress dialog box indicating voltage and percentage of life left as well as time elapsed. Check 'em out.
