I don't know if I made a mistake (hope not), but a bit desperate to find a battery, I finally ordered a BTI Type IV from Outpost.com at $99.95 with free overnight delivery. I did put the battery in my 280c at about 6:30pm, so it's been there for over 5 hours. They say that the battery should be initially charged for 10 hours, but I am wondering a bit that there is no apparent progress on the charge. I own a Newton MessagePad and whenever I recharge a battery, I can monitor the progress with some built-in utility. I'm currently running 8.1 on the 280c and the provided monitoring tools don't seem to change their state. That's my first PowerBook, so I'm a bit at lost what to expect, and I didn't get any doc with it. I haven't found the Duo 280c user's guide, so I don't know what to expect. What I am experiencing is that the little battery icon color in the menu bar, between the clock and the application menu hasn't changed: it's still about 4/5 red, with the top part, about 1/5, being what looks like some reddish orange. There also seems to be a little tiny pointer on the left of the battery that points from left to right, at the battery top, but I don't know what that means. I also have the battery control strip and the battery level indicator hasn't changed either: all levels are gray. None of them has started to turn green, as I think they should be. I must add that I haven't turned on the Duo, except for monitoring the charge. I don't know if it makes a difference, but with a MessagePad, it does. If you leave it turned off while recharging the battery, the amount of time needed will dramatically decreases. Maybe that's not the case on a PowerBook, I don't know. So, my basic question is: is this normal the first time you charge a battery? Should I only expect to see some changes at the end of the charge cycle? Or did I do a huge mistake by buying this Type IV NiMH battery, which is said to work in a 280? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! -Laurent. ============================================================ Laurent Daudelin <http://home.cox.rr.com/nemesys> Logiciels Nemesys Software mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
