Now seems like a good time to relate my summer's
experiences:

My 2400 NewerTech G3 was sent in to MCE for a bigger
hard drive and cardbus upgrade. It worked fine (new
hard drive was much faster) for one month, then died.

I returned it to MCE with a note saying I understood
that the problems may or may not have anything to do
with their previous work. Due to a mix-up at MCE, they
installed another new hard drive and returned it
otherwise unrepaired. They were very apologetic for
screwing up.

When I sent it back to MCE they determined that the G3
board from Newer was defective. They had me call Newer
to arrange to have a replacement sent. Although I had
no warranty or proof of purchase (I bought this
machine used in early 1999), they replaced the board
with new one at no cost to me. I did have to wait a
couple of weeks, however, as they said they were have
QC problems with a batch of these boards and were
checking them all out before sending any out. Finally,
the sent the replacement to MCE.

The 2400 came back a few days later and with the
exception of having to reinstall MS Office programs
which somehow got corrupted, everything has worked
fine. The computer used to run VERY hot, and would
shut itself down after a couple of hours on warm days
in my office. Now it runs warm, but never too hot to
touch or to shut down.

Losing the computer for about 6 weeks was hard to
take, but alls well that ends well. I give very high
marks to both MCE and Newer for standing behind their
work and products.

As far as 2400s being tempermental or fragile, my
machine travels a lot, banged around in a briefcase,
almost always on sleep mode. This treatment has never
seemed to bother it. I run OS 8.6, BTW. YMMA.

I too would like to see a modern G4 subnotebook from
Apple, but in the meantime, I love this little
workhorse.
