This happened to a number of people (including myself) last year. If I recall it has something to do with the PRAM Battery, but I'm not sure. In any case my 2400 exhibited exactly the same symptoms as yours. I tried most of the things that you have already tried. In the end, I gave up and didn't touch my 2400 for about a week. After a week of being idle my 2400 worked like new. I believe that others had the same experience and 'fix', but they left their 2400s idle for about 3 days.
