List,

I've got a few messages mentioning some kind of interest in my saga, so here
is the final chapter, for now...

As you know, I did post from work that I did get the display cable that I
thought would be my savior.

So, I got back home earlier this evening and you can guess that the first
thing I did was to sit in front of my disassembled 2300c.

I checked my email to see if anybody had any recommendation (someone did)
and after making sure everything was there, I started working. I did remove
the old display cable and put back the new (used) one. Then, I proceeded in
re-assembling the Duo, slowly, very methodically. I'm becoming a real pro
now, I pretty much know where every screw goes!

So, I've finally assembled the display housing, and did plug the display
cable on the motherboard. I then plugged the computer and I, hmmm, rather
anxiously pressed the reset button on the back.

The usual and expected chime did welcome me. Then, the screen did turn on.
The little happy face did appear and the fabled 2300c started loading the
system! It worked almost perfectly! Yeah!

I say 'almost', because I did notice a few anomalies. First, trying to
change the contrast doesn't work. I'm not sure if this was working before I
attempted my first operation, but it doesn't work. The buttons and the
interaction with the computer are working, because when I press one or the
other, I get the little contrast dialog with the progress bar. However, the
progress bar doesn't show. I also noticed that when I did try a battery that
was almost completely depleted, the system at some point did inform me that
the screen would dim. However, the screen didn't dim.

So, it's not too bad, and I'm pretty happy right now. However, if someone
has any idea as to what could be wrong, I welcome your comments.

A final thing I did notice is a some time erratic behavior from the
trackpad. I did examine the thing and I think it's also suffering a similar
problem than my display cable had. The cable seems to be badly bent at a
point and I think the erratic dragging comes from it. It was so bad that I
decided to put my 280c CPU top case with the trackball until I can find a
trackpad replacement cable.

So, if you happen to have this beast, please, let me know.

All in all, I thank everybody that had a good comment in my problems and now
feel really part of this great list!

-Laurent.
