Eric You ask who uses Photoshop on a Duo: ) I use Photoshop 3.0 on a Duo 280 with 40mb RAM, & OS 8.1 in a DuoDock II with a 16" colour monitor (3.0 uses the hard drive as its own VM, so it can conflict with Mac OS VM when that's on). Also RayDream 3.1.1 and Quark3.3 and Freehand 4.0. And Appleworks (5) of course. Point is, except for AppleWorks, which is efficient anyway, I use software contemporary with my machine, which means that it is far less memory hungry. And to be honest, although the modern stuff can do more, it doesn't do that much more, and so the limits are still set by my imagination, not the computer. IMHO, old isn't necesarilly obsolete, it's just not new, but given that we're all using Duos, I guess you know that. Oh and on the cube discussion, reading between the lines of many of the reviews, people think of computers, fundamentally, as tools, not appliances, not objets d'art. Personally, I like really well made stuff, and there's a sense in which you pay a premium for what is genuinely good design in G4 Cube in the same way that you do for, say, a Mont Balnc pen or a Bang and Olufsen Hi Fi system. Much of the argument and discussion about the Cube has really been about what a computer should be. But it's been carried out by people who are genuinely interested in computers, rather than by people who just use them. People who genuinely like computers, I suspect, are not scared of them, and enjoy tinkering with them. Thing is, modern computers are actually frighteningly powerful pieces of equipment which will in all likelihood never be pushed to their limits. For example, and leaving aside for the moment issues of functionality, I rather doubt that a report written on using Office 2001 on a Dual G4 will necessarily be better than one written in Word 5.1 on a Macintosh LC. So does it really matter that a Cube is less amenable to tinkering than other computers? I suspect not, for the most part. If computers really are going to appeal to technophobes like my mother, then the notion that you never have to look inside the thing is probably thoroughly welcome, and if it's quiet, looks good and takes up very little space, so much the better. I'll stop there - I have to go home! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, or had one if you got this on Monday. nick _____________________________ >> From: "Eric L.
