>I've been reading the battery rebuilding threads on this list carefully, >as I have considerable experience building NiCad batteries for all sorts >of things (and because I've paid high prices for marginally good Duo >batteries). One question I have is whether or not a Duo could charge and >use a Lithium-ion battery? I'm sure the discharge characteristics are >different from NiMH. Would it confuse the power manager? Would it be >impossible to match the voltage closely enough? Li-Ion batteries are nice, faster charge time and more life. The downside is the need for an ultra-inteligent charger to keep the batteries for overcharging, overheating, exploding, etc.... Once a battery is charged, it just like most other batteries. You can use Li-Ion, you just have to keep the Duo from charing it, or else, KABOOM!, you're Duo goes up in smoke just like a prototype PowerBook 5300 :-) Nothing like an exploding PowerBook. -- Peter Liethen - [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
