Y'know, kind of > a portable Cube? Much as we hope, IMO Apple will never release a new subnotebook until it's really on top of its aging G3 Powerbook line, especially considering how far their stock fell. They also won't make a simultaneous subnotebook release which would cannibalize their main PB sales. I'd say we are minimally 8 months away from any subnotebook, maybe a lot longer. Apple may feel that getting the successor to Pismo at around the rumored 5 lbs will sufficiently "convince" most of us to buy in. They are probably right. From a manufacturing standpoint, making a small subnotebook is more expensive than a "mainframe" PB by unit cost/profitability, even allowing for a slower CPU. >From a marketing standpoint, the price/power ratio/range and size of subnotebook buyer base is also hard to get right--and proportionately and numerically probably much smaller in the USA than in Japan. I sincerely hope I'm way wrong--it would be a pleasure to eat my words! :-) Meanwhile a seriously upgraded 2400c is still an excellent machine, bridging old and new, but not without shortcomings.
