I have a Duo 280, great little machine, running Palm Desktop 1.0,
AppleWorks 5, Eudora and QuarkXpress 3.3, all on OS8.1. It has 40MB memory
and a 200MB hard drive and it runs for about one and tthree quarter hours
off the battery. Also I have DuoDock II which can apparently run two
monitors at thousands of colours, and I use that set up for Ray Dream
designer 3, Photoshop 3 and Xpress 3.3 and the like. It has a second 500MB
hard drive too.

The trick is this. Use software contemporary with the machine (although I
like 8.1), and accept its limitations. The Duo on its own is a fine little
laptop, which can fit in a small overnight bag, and with a DuoDock II, old
software and a bit (OK sometimes a lot) of patience it's a perfectly
capable, if slow ,graphics machine. The same can be said of its
web-browsing capabilities. I realy don't mind the lack of colour on the
laptop itself.

The only real problem is the lack of an FPU in the 68LC040 chip, which
makes it all but unuseable on many statistics, artificial life and some
graphics packages - I use a version of Statview that is some ten years
old. Even with Software FPU, a freeware fpu emulator, it doesn't run
everything.

So plus points - it's versatile, and will do most things you'd want it too;
Minus points - it's slow by today's standards, especially for graphics, and
doesn't have an fpu.

I hope that helps
