Do you have a madness that infects you ?
Do you feel the need to do surgery on a pefectly good Duo ?
Did you root for Frankenstein in the self-titled movie ?
If so, the YOU could BE a mad SCIENTIST !
Listen closely ! (I hope to have my digital camera soon so I can show pics)
You will need to be handy with a soldering iron as it requires
soldering on your motherboard. Mad-Scientist-Wannabes Need Not Apply !
If you are brave/stupid/drunk enough to continue, you must carefully
de-solder the 66.6666 MHz oscillator from the motherboards and
replace it with a higher rated oscillator (you can get these from
Digi-Key, details supplied if needed).
With any luck, the higher rated speed will not cause any problems
other than more heat; in which case I suggest adding a healthy dab of
thermal paste (Beryllium Oxide, most computer stores should have it)
between the CPU and frame/heatsink.
My Duo 280c is now rated at 37.5 MHz (using a 75 MHz oscillator).
Andrew ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) got his going at 40 MHz once , but the serial
port did not work well/at-all. (Presumably he put the machine back to
its regular speed, so NOW I HAVE THE FASTEST 68K DUO in THE WORLD !
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!)
I dont really notice a change in the poerating temp, and I have been
able to print and dial out from the computer, so everything seems to
be working ok.
Remember, you run the chance of obliterating your motherboard so be carefull.
If anyone is interested, I will be able ti supply a more detailed
procedure and pics soon.
