The recommended step is to press the reset button for over 10 seconds then release.
You can try various pressing times up to a minute.
In desperate situations the gut-and-pray method is recommended: unplug power cord,
take out main battery AND PRAM Battery, let it sit around for a day or so and pray
frequently to your favorite god in the meantime.
If you are less desperate you can try anything in between the 2.
