John,

When I was faced with the same sort of thing and anxious to try out my
new machine, I found a sympathetic tech at a local Apple Repair place
and he plopped my Duo into a dock and did a system restore for me. He
only charged me a half hour's shop labor for it. I then used my fully
functioning Duo to bid and buy the rest of the stuff I ~needed~. At the
time, it was a quick easy and a fairly cheap.

Good Luck,

Randy
