You can turn SCSI devices on or off after booting - do it all the time with several
different machines.  The proper driver may not load if the device is not on the chain
at boot up and HD or removables with have to be mounted using SCSI Probe at al; but it
can be done and Ihave never had it lock up any machine in hundreds of tries. Ths is the
normal way I handle scanners and similar devices which are not used every day - only
turn on when needed..
