I agree with you that the cube is not lacking anything right now. (for
those people whose needs fit the cube's intended mission) However, the
whole Idea behind expansion options is that you never know what you might
want to put in it in the future. Fact is that most expansion slots are
never used at all. However, when I bought my PowerTower, there was no
chance that I was going to use all eight RAM slots and six PCI
slots. However, I'm glad I have them, for who would have thought I would
end up with Firewire and USB in that machine? Maybe I'll put a Tempo IDE
controller in so I can buy cheaper hard drives. Not to mention my TurboTV
which saved me from having to buy a television in college.
Who knows what we will be dying to put in the cube in three years'
time. That's one of the reasons that the 2400 is even viable
today. Upgradable CPU and PCMCIA slots. Now you can have a 320MHz G3 2400
with Firewire, ethernet and USB (but not at the same time....).
